Today's Gold Rate in Dubai: How to Read 24K, 22K, 21K & 18K Prices

If you've ever stood in the Dubai Gold Souk staring at a board full of numbers, this guide is for you. Here's how the UAE gold rate actually works — and how to know the fair price before a jeweller quotes you.

Gold in the UAE is priced per gram, in dirhams

Unlike some markets that quote gold per ounce, the UAE quotes gold per gram in AED. Every jewellery shop in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah works from the same live benchmark rate that updates through the trading day as the global gold price moves. That rate is the starting point for any purchase — the raw value of the gold itself, before a shop adds its making charge.

What the karat numbers mean

Karat (K) measures purity — how much of the metal is pure gold versus other alloys added for strength and colour.

The higher the karat, the higher the price per gram — because there's more pure gold in each gram. That's why 24K always sits at the top of the souk board and 18K at the bottom.

How a jeweller's price is calculated

The final price of a piece is straightforward once you know the parts:

• Gold value = today's rate for that karat × the weight in grams
• + Making charge = the labour/design fee, either a fixed amount per gram or a percentage
• + 5% VAT on the total, where applicable

Is the rate different in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah?

No. The UAE uses a single national gold benchmark, so the 24K–18K rate is effectively the same in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman on any given day. What changes from shop to shop is the making charge, not the gold price.
